MEET OUR FOUNDER & PRESIDENT,  DR. MRS. EMILIAN EMEAGWALI

“The greatest good is what we do for others.”

~ Mother Teresa

I am a physical therapist, a businesswoman, and the owner of State of the Art Physical Therapy Rehabilitation, P.C., in Valley Stream, New York. I am a native of Onitsha in the eastern part of Nigeria, Africa. I attended elementary, secondary, and undergraduate education in Nigeria prior to emigrating to America in 1992 to join my husband, Hon. Patrick Emeagwali. He and I parent five beautiful children.

Upon arrival in the states, I felt a natural calling to help people; hence, I pursued an education in the medical profession. That passion to help the underprivileged is rooted in my upbringing by my philanthropic parents, the late Margaret and Vincent Onochie.

In 2006, I completed a doctoral program in Physical Therapy (DPT) at Stony Brook University on Long Island in New York. I also hold these degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Brooklyn College, New York; A.A.S with honors in Physical Therapy from LaGuardia Community College, New York; and a Higher National Diploma in Insurance from the Institute of Management and Technology Enugu, Nigeria.

In the quest to help my community, I opened a Physical Therapy clinic in Valley Stream in 2007 where I assist patients and offer professional services, regardless of their financial or insurance status.

After vacationing in my homeland in Nigeria in 2009, I founded Giving Back to Community Corp, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. I was appalled by what I had witnessed abroad: numerous children going to bed hungry, people without clean water or decent clothing; some children unable to attend school because their parents could not afford tuition. Most public schools there are not equipped with even the basic needs to foster good education, which results in the poor younger generation having a significant educational gap with those more fortunate.

The coronavirus pandemic quadrupled their suffering. I feel we must rise to address the fast-growing humanitarian tasks brought about by the deteriorating economic situation in our society. The time to act is now!
